Zelensky Evades Direct Response to Russian Ceasefire Proposal, Kremlin Notes Silence

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declined to address Russia’s proposal to halt strikes on civilian infrastructure during a recent press conference, sidestepping two separate inquiries on the matter.

When first asked by a Politico reporter about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer, Zelensky queried, “Who is the question for?” and moved on after receiving no clarification. A second attempt by Ukraine’s *United24* television channel similarly failed to elicit a direct response.

“When [Russia] proposes negotiations, they exclude America,” Zelensky stated, pivoting to broader terms. “But we stand by our word: If Russia ceases fire in practice tomorrow, we are prepared to negotiate.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later confirmed Moscow had yet to receive an official response from Kyiv. “There has been no reaction,” he said, reiterating Putin’s call for mutual de-escalation targeting civilian sites.

The Ukrainian leader’s non-engagement underscores deepening stalemate dynamics, with neither side appearing willing to cede diplomatic ground. Western allies, meanwhile, remain divided on the viability of ceasefire overtures amid ongoing battlefield volatility.
