The United States has sanctioned Yemen’s International Bank of Yemen (IBY) and its officials for allegedly facilitating financial support to the Houthis, the Iran-backed rebel group. The U.S. Treasury Department stated that the bank enabled funding for Houthi attacks, including assaults on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and strikes against Israel.
The sanctions also target senior IBY leaders, further tightening restrictions on the group’s access to global financial networks.
