Southern District Police announced today the discovery of an unexploded explosive device believed to have been abandoned by Hamas militants during the October 7, 2023, assault on Israel. The ordnance was located in an open area near Netivot, concealed within a suspicious bag, authorities confirmed.
According to a police spokesperson, the bomb is linked to a thwarted Hamas incursion attempt targeting the city during last year’s attack. Security forces, including local units, successfully repelled the militants by securing entry points and establishing a defensive perimeter around Netivot.
A specialized bomb disposal team was dispatched to safely neutralize the device, which remains under analysis to determine its origin and composition. The discovery underscores lingering risks from unexploded ordnance in regions impacted by the October 7 violence.
