Ukrainian military officials confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Russian forces have escalated artillery and aerial attacks on communities in the Sumy region, located near the countries’ shared border. The assaults, originating from Russian territory, targeted multiple settlements in the area, heightening concerns over civilian safety and infrastructure damage.
According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ latest operational update, the attacks extended beyond Sumy, with Russian strikes also reported in the Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. In Kharkiv’s Kupiansk district, three additional Russian missile strikes were recorded, accompanied by two ongoing ground engagements between Ukrainian and invading forces. Meanwhile, in the Lymansk sector, Russian troops launched four separate assaults in a bid to advance positions.
The situation remains volatile in southern Ukraine, where Ukrainian defenders repelled six attempted offensives by Russian units in the Novopavlivka sector of Zaporizhia Oblast. The military emphasized that frontline areas continue to endure concentrated artillery, drone, and aerial bombardment as Moscow intensifies pressure across multiple axes.
The report underscores Russia’s broadening campaign of cross-border strikes and localized ground operations, particularly in northern and eastern Ukraine, as Kyiv calls for accelerated Western military aid to counter the onslaught.
