Russian Attacks Kill Two in Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Sumy, Injure Dozens Including Children

 


Kharkiv/Sumy, Ukraine – A Russian missile strike killed one person and injured at least 74 others, including five children, in the northeastern city of Kharkiv early Friday, while a separate drone attack claimed another life in Sumy, local officials reported.  


Kharkiv Strike Targets Residential Area

The pre-dawn missile strike damaged 15 residential buildings, a business, and an educational facility, according to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov. Emergency services confirmed that among the injured were children as young as 3 and 4 years old, along with teenagers aged 14, 16, and 17.  


Sumy Bakery Hit Amid Easter Preparations

In Sumy, a Russian drone struck a bakery producing Easter cakes, killing at least one person and wounding another. The attack underscored Moscow’s continued assaults on civilian infrastructure.  


Nationwide Barrage: Lviv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Kyiv Targeted

 report from Kyiv, said the attacks were part of a widespread overnight assault involving missiles, drones, artillery, and rockets across multiple cities.  


Dnipro: A missile hit a commercial area, damaging a gym, hotel, and office block, though no casualties were immediately reported.  

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted three cruise missiles and nearly two dozen drones, but some strikes penetrated defenses.  


Escalating Civilian Toll

“The attacks came just after 5 a.m., as curfews lifted and people began their day,” Basravi said. “In Kharkiv alone, apartments and vehicles were destroyed, leaving families scrambling for safety.”  


International Condemnation Expected

The strikes come as Ukraine appeals for more advanced air defenses from Western allies to protect civilians. The U.S. and EU have repeatedly condemned such attacks, which have intensified in recent weeks.
